Two airports, Thanh Son (Ninh Thuan province) and Bien Hoa (Dong Nai province) are proposed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to study for civil service if eligible.
The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam has just reported to the Ministry of Transport on the review of documents on the master plan on development of the national airport and airport system in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, as directed government.
The new point after the review is that the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam proposes to update the content "Research, survey and evaluate the possibility of planning and building airports at a number of military airports (Thanh Son, Bien Hoa). ...) in case of eligibility" to the draft planning.
Currently, two airports, Thanh Son and Bien Hoa, serve military purposes. According to the recommendations of localities, the Government has directed to set up a Working Group to study the conversion into a dual-use airport and report to the Government for consideration and decision before September 2022.

By reviewing the capacity of airports with the potential for sudden growth in transportation demand, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam proposes that by 2030, Cat Bi airport (Hai Phong) will be adjusted from a capacity of 8 million passengers per year to 13 million, Chu Lai airport from 5 to 10 million.
With a vision to 2050, Van Don airport is adjusted from 12 million passengers per year to 20 million, and Chu Lai airport from 28 to 30 million.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam also added to the research plan for runway No. 3 at Cam Ranh airport in the period of 2021-2030 to meet the development requirements of Khanh Hoa province.
At the end of 2021, the Ministry of Transport has submitted to the Government a draft master plan on the national airport network, with 28 ports in the 2021-2030 period, including: 14 international ports (Van Don, Cat Bi, Noi Bai, Tho). Xuan, Vinh, Phu Bai, Da Nang, Chu Lai, Cam Ranh, Lien Khuong, Long Thanh, Tan Son Nhat, Can Tho and Phu Quoc); 14 domestic ports (Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Sa Pa, Na San, Dong Hoi, Quang Tri, Phu Cat, Tuy Hoa, Pleiku, Buon Ma Thuot, Phan Thiet, Rach Gia, Ca Mau and Con Dao). The planned location of Hai Phong International Airport is in Tien Lang District, Hai Phong City.
With a vision to 2050, the Ministry of Transport proposes to establish 31 airports, including: 14 international ports, of which Hai Phong airport will be built to replace Cat Bi; 17 domestic ports, including the new Cao Bang airport and the second airport in the southeast of Hanoi.
The dossier is open for research, planning, and construction of airports on islands (such as Ly Son, Phu Quy...), archipelagos with needs for economic and social development, and ensuring national defense and security.
After studying the report, the Government continued to request the Ministry of Transport to review, study, absorb and explain the Government's comments.
