19/12/2024
Like 2023, Sacom-Chip Sang Company Limited (SCS) continues to sponsor the "Smart City 2024 - Smart City Building Initiative" competition organized by the High-Tech Business Incubator. This is an annual competition, organized to honor the ideas and solutions of the young intellectual community and technology startups.

The project applying artificial intelligence in medicine and biological products in agriculture won high prizes at the Smart City 2024 Initiative Competition.

On the afternoon of December 18, the High-Tech Business Incubator, Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park (SHTP-IC) held the final round of the Smart City Initiative Competition. This is an annual competition, held since 2016, to honor the ideas and solutions of the young intellectual community and technology startups. The competition aims to create and promote the application of technological solutions to concretize the digital transformation and green transformation trends of Ho Chi Minh City. This year's competition is divided into two groups of startup projects in the fields of digital technology and biotechnology.

In the digital technology category, the first prize (VND50 million) went to a website project that uses a machine learning model to help screen people at risk of thalassemia by a group of authors from the University of Health Sciences, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. Researcher Nguyen Thanh Dat, representing the group, said that thalassemia is a common genetic disease that can cause serious complications throughout life. To reduce the risk of children being born with serious illnesses and reduce the burden on medical facilities and families, the group used data from more than 60,000 patients, of whom more than 1,400 were tested for thalassemia, to build an artificial intelligence model that can predict the risk of patients carrying the gene for this disease. The group's model runs on a website that is easy for medical facilities and hospitals to use, achieving over 98% accuracy in prediction. "The research results can help couples with prenatal counseling, reducing the problem of children being born with serious illnesses," Dat said.

In the biotechnology category, the first prize (VND30 million) went to a project on fermenting microorganisms at high density to improve degraded soil, treat and clean water, and accelerate the decomposition of organic matter and agricultural by-products. Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, representative of Probiotics Company (Thu Duc City), said that the unit has developed a process to cultivate and isolate four strains of beneficial microorganisms at high density, helping them to operate stably, long-term and increase their efficiency.

In the two competition categories, the Organizing Committee awarded second, third and consolation prizes to projects on education applying drone technology, electric bicycle production technology, black garlic microbial products serving poultry farming, early diagnosis software for liver cancer... In addition, the competition has an additional robot assembly and programming board for students to promote STEM education activities.

Mr. Le Quoc Cuong, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park Management Board, said that during the competition, the projects were trained on technology improvement, business models and skills development with support from experts and businesses. He believes that with in-depth training and consulting activities, the teams will have the opportunity to develop and be supported to participate in the incubation program at SHTP-IC.
