Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park (SHTP) will have a Science and Technology Park to attract strategic high-tech projects, increasing its attractiveness to international corporations.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just issued a plan to implement the project to expand the Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park in Long Phuoc ward, concretizing Decision No. 1061/QD-TTg signed by Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung in mid-June, opening a new chapter for the city's strategic technology map.
According to the Government's decision, the High-Tech Park will be expanded by nearly 195 hectares. Based on this decision, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee's implementation plan includes adding the function of a Science and Technology Park.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requires relevant departments and agencies to expedite investment preparation, complete legal procedures, land acquisition, compensation, site clearance, and resettlement.
The expansion will include areas for research and development of high-tech and strategic technologies; support for incubation, training, technology transfer, and commercialization. The goal is to transform Ho Chi Minh City High-Tech Park into a leading research, development, and innovation hub in the region.

To attract investors, especially multinational corporations, Ho Chi Minh City will develop mechanisms and policies to attract high-tech projects, strategic technologies, and research and development (R&D) centers.
This expanded area is being shaped according to the model of a new generation High-Tech Park. It will extensively integrate digital infrastructure, green infrastructure, and breakthrough research spaces, aiming for the ultimate goal of carbon neutrality before 2050.
According to the new operating regulations issued by the Government in mid-June, the zoning plan and detailed plan of the expanded area must prioritize core functions such as high-tech and strategic technologies.
The entire architectural design and technical infrastructure here must meet the standards of a smart city, harmoniously connecting with the entire existing SHTP system and neighboring economic zones.
In terms of specialized functions, this nearly 195-hectare expansion is expected to become a hub for scientific research, core technology development, and pilot production of strategic technology products.
Ho Chi Minh City will establish centers for research and development of advanced technologies, leading in key areas including microelectronics - information technology, automation, biotechnology, and new materials.
In particular, this will also be the first place to implement a controlled testing mechanism (sandbox) for new technologies, products, and even new technology policies before widespread market application.
Alongside the development of physical infrastructure, comprehensive support for the ecosystem is also emphasized through incubation activities, training of high-quality human resources, and strong transfer and commercialization of technological achievements.
According to the SHTP Management Board, the High-Tech Park currently operates with 166 active projects, with a total investment exceeding US$13.7 billion, of which FDI accounts for over 80% with more than US$11 billion from large corporations such as Samsung. Notably, the semiconductor chip giant Intel (USA) has committed to increasing its total investment in Vietnam to US$4.11 billion in the near future, with an Intel factory located within SHTP.
By 2026, SHTP aims to attract approximately US$1.6 billion in investment, focusing entirely on high technology, core technologies, and innovation.
