The Prime Minister has just issued a decision approving the adjustment of investment policy in the construction project of urban railway No. 1 in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien route (Metro No. 1).

Accordingly, the construction completion time of the project is set at the end of the fourth quarter of 2023. The project completion time is in the period 2024-2028.
Tasks in the project completion period include the time of defect notification (from 2024 to the end of 2025); the operation and maintenance support period from 2024 to the end of 2028. Other contents remain unchanged from the project investment policy approved by the competent authority.
The Prime Minister's decision stated that the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City based on the above contents to approve and adjust the project in accordance with the law. The project needs to be organized and implemented on schedule, ensuring efficiency.
The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City is fully responsible before the Prime Minister in solving difficulties, problems, calculating data, fully arranging capital sources, ensuring completion on time. In case the capital sources are not arranged within the approved time limit, the locality needs to arrange other capital sources to implement the unfinished items.
The People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City also urgently needs to review the needs, complete the procedures to report to the competent authorities to decide on the negotiation and signing of the 4th loan agreement for the project. At the same time, the city government urgently sent a document to the Ministry of Planning and Investment to register the need for a medium-term plan with foreign capital allocated from the central budget for the remaining 2021-2025 period of the project.
At the end of December 2022, the train of  Metro line 1 tested the elevated section with a route of nearly 9km, from Suoi Tien bus station to Binh Thai station (Thu Duc city). On January 18, the train continued to be tested on an elevated section with an automatic train protection system (ATP).
On the morning of January 31, the Management Board of Urban Railways of Ho Chi Minh City (MAUR) and the contractor also held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the office building of the Company that operates and exploits (O&M) metro line No. Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) at the Long Binh depot.
