The government has issued a decision on 10 strategic technology groups and 30 strategic technology products that Vietnam prioritizes for development.
The new list is designed to focus resources on developing core technologies and foundational technologies that have a significant impact on economic growth, competitiveness, and national security.
The decision takes effect from July 1st, replacing the list of strategic technologies issued in June 2025.
The 10 technology groups cover many key areas of the digital economy and future industries, including digital technology; next-generation mobile network technology; robotics and automation; advanced biotechnology and biomedical technology; advanced energy and materials technology; semiconductor chip technology; cybersecurity and quantum technology; marine, ocean, and subsurface technology; aerospace technology; and high-speed rail and urban rail technology.
In this context, digital technology is identified as the central group, including artificial intelligence, big data, digital mirroring, cloud computing, edge computing, the Internet of Things, and blockchain. This is the foundation for national digital transformation and the development of the digital economy.

In parallel with the 10 technology groups, the Government also issued a list of 30 strategic technology products, divided into two groups.
The first group includes 22 products that already have a market and can directly impact economic development.
These include products such as Vietnamese big language models, virtual assistants and specialized AI; AI cameras for edge processing; digital mirroring platforms; cloud computing platforms; blockchain network infrastructure and traceability systems; 5G/5G-Advanced mobile network equipment and systems; Autonomous mobile robots and industrial robots; platforms, solutions, and models for smart manufacturing; cybersecurity and network security solutions for critical infrastructure and national databases.
This group also includes products related to biotechnology and biomedical technology such as next-generation vaccines for humans; cell therapies for humans; personalized medical product manufacturing systems using 3D printing technology; intelligent biosensor systems; next-generation vaccines and biological products used in animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, aquaculture, crop cultivation, and plant protection; systems for the production, harvesting, and deep processing of agricultural products, by-products, and biomass; next-generation plant, animal, and aquatic species created from cell technology, gene editing, and biotechnology.
In the energy and materials sector, the products included in the list are advanced materials and high-performance functional materials for processing and manufacturing industries; Advanced batteries and integrated energy storage systems (BESS); green hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and distribution systems; high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage electrical equipment, electrical machines, electric motors, and modern electric transmission and drive systems; carbon capture, utilization, and storage systems; unmanned aerial vehicles and related management and monitoring systems.
The second group comprises eight strategic technology products that form the foundation for the future, creating new growth drivers and ensuring self-reliance in national security and defense.
This group includes specialized chips; quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum sensors; systems for deep-processing and processing of minerals, oil, gas, and rare earth products; systems, equipment, and technological solutions for deep-sea and offshore energy exploration.
In addition, there are other products such as small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs); satellites and low-orbit satellite constellations; High-speed rail construction projects; industrial platforms, vehicles, equipment, and integrated systems for high-speed rail and urban rail.
The Ministry of Science and Technology will preside over and coordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to periodically review and evaluate the list to update it in accordance with development requirements in each stage.
The new strategic technology list is assessed to be streamlined, focusing on technologies and products that have a direct impact on economic growth, competitiveness, and the country's long-term development needs. The list also reflects the priority orientation of technologies that can be deployed and create clear value in the short term, instead of spreading resources too thinly.
