25/11/2021
Four Metro trains No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) are expected to be brought from Japan to the city in late November and early December, bringing the total number of trains under the project to be imported to 11.

On the afternoon of November 23, the Management Board of Urban Railways of Ho Chi Minh City (MAUR - the investor) said that of the four ships that are about to return, the first two groups arrived at Khanh Hoi port (District 4) on November 28. On December 5, the next two trains will arrive in the city. These ships are then unloaded to the port and transported by super-long trucks to the Long Binh depot (Thu Duc city).

With the addition of the four trains mentioned above to Ho Chi Minh City, Metro Line 1 has a total of 11 out of 17 trains brought back. Previously, from October last year, the project imported the first train, until July this year, 6 more trains.

17 trains of Metro No. 1 are all made in Japan, of which the first stage operates a 3-car train, 61.5 m long, carrying 930 passengers (standing, sitting). The train is designed with a speed of 110 km/h (above section) and 80 km/h (underground section). With the average distance between stations just over one km, when operating the trains are expected to run at a speed of 40 km/h.

Currently, the trains brought to the Long Binh depot are still waiting for the test run. According to the investor's plan, the train will be tested in phases, first running within the depot, then on the main line. In parallel with train testing, supporting systems such as electricity, signal information (train control), rails... are also tested.

Metro No. 1 with a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND - is the first urban railway project in Ho Chi Minh City. The whole route is nearly 20 km long, from Ben Thanh station (District 1) to Long Binh depot, including 3 underground stations and 11 elevated stations. The assembly of trains, rails, electromechanical equipment... belongs to CP3 package of the project, currently the volume reaches 75%.

Metro Line 1 was previously scheduled to be completed by the end of this year and start commercial operation from next year, but changed the plan due to the impact of Covid-19. At the same time, the project still has some problems related to the procedures for signing contract appendices with the general consultant, disbursement of ODA... Currently, the whole project has reached about 88% of the volume, is expected to increase by the end of this year up 91%.
