Metro No. 1 to pay ground in the center of Ho Chi Minh City before April 30th

Le Loi Street in District 1 for the construction of Ben Thanh Station, belonging to Metro Line 1, will be returned before April 30 to redesign the landscape and architecture.

On the afternoon of February 11, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hien, deputy head of the HCMC Urban Railway Management Board (MAUR - the investor), said that outside the scope of the park on September 23, the entire system of streets and sidewalks on the road Le Loi is paid before April 30. MAUR coordinates with relevant departments and units such as electricity, water supply and drainage... to speed up the implementation process to keep up with schedule. This is also the final ground return of the metro project in the center of District 1.

Ben Thanh station under package CP1a (underground section from Ben Thanh station to Opera House station) currently accounts for about 95% of the volume. The station is 236m long, 60m wide, about 32m deep, including 4 underground floors with 6 entrances up and down. This is the central station of Metro No. 1, connecting many other metro lines in the future.
 
According to MAUR, currently Ben Thanh station has completed the construction of the structure, the wall, the bottom floor waterproofing... The main items being deployed by the contractor are the architecture, the M&E... Particularly the tunnel section. Open excavation on Le Loi street is also in the above package, the main items such as construction of structure, lead wall, diaphragm wall, floor waterproofing... have been completed. The contractor is coordinating with infrastructure management units such as electricity, water supply and drainage, information... to complete documents and drawings to soon return the current status of the route.
 
At the end of last year, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Hoa Binh approved the plan to design the landscape and re-establish Le Loi Street, the section from Nguyen Hue pedestrian street to Ben Thanh market at the proposal of the Department of Planning and Architecture. According to the department's plan, the reconstruction and landscape design of the route will be implemented in stages. During the implementation process, the barrier for the construction of Metro Line 1 in the area will temporarily remain in place, to facilitate the re-establishment of the route until the construction of the landscape design is completed.
 
City leaders are currently directing the Department of Planning and Architecture to coordinate with the investor and related units to recalculate the cost of re-establishing the route to balance in the form of socialization.

Ben Thanh Station started construction in 2016. To serve the construction of the station, Le Loi Street, the section through Ben Thanh market - a busy area in the center of Saigon, is fenced. The road surface will be returned, landscape redesign will help open the area, facilitate trade, business, and service development. Previously, two other underground stations of Metro No. 1 including Opera House and Ba Son stations were returned by the investor.
 
Metro No. 1 has a total investment of more than 43,700 billion VND, nearly 20 km long from Long Binh depot (Thu Duc city) to Ben Thanh station. The project has imported 11 out of 17 trains, which are expected to be tested in the middle of this year. The metro line currently reaches nearly 89%, the plan is to put it into operation in 2023.
