WHO declares 2022 to be the year 'we end the Covid-19 pandemic'
22/12/2021
Speaking to the press in Geneva, Switzerland, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) emphasized that the world must unite and make difficult but necessary choices to end the Covid-19 pandemic in 2022.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that "2022 should be the year we end the pandemic". He mentioned the development of 2nd and 3rd generation vaccines, as well as the development of antibacterial, antiviral and other innovations.

“Hopefully we can make Covid-19 a relatively mild disease that is easily preventable and treatable. If we can control the spread of the virus to a minimum, we can end the pandemic", Ghebreyesus said.

With the year-end holiday approaching, the WHO Director-General said that countries should limit national events on this occasion, because the gathering of people would be the "perfect environment" to transform. Omicron bodies spread.

The WHO warned that year-end festivals can increase the number of cases and deaths from Covid-19 and overload the health system, and urged people to limit unnecessary gatherings.

“A canceled event is better than a canceled life. Now it is better to postpone and cancel events and celebrate later than to celebrate now and then grieve later,” Ghebreyesus said.

Since it was first discovered by South African scientists at the end of November, the Delta variant has now spread to dozens of countries around the world.
